Leaping acrobatic catches, deep bombs landing gracefully in the arms of a receiver as he stays in stride, one handed grabs…these are a few of my favorite things. And, it’s why week 1 can’t come quick enough. At this point and time the wide receiving landscape is perfectly even. No receptions have been made. No yards racked up, and no end zone dances danced. Everyone has a clean slate. So who will rise to the top after week 1. Will it be a familiar name like Terrell Owens or Reggie Wayne, or will all fantasy football owners be scrambling for the no-name WR, who racked up 100 yards and a score come Monday? To see the Bruno Boys take on the week 1 wide receivers, simply read the Bruno Boys Fantasy Wide Receiver Rankings below. ——————– 1. Terrell Owens (Dallas Cowboys) @ Cleveland Let’s see, is there any better matchup than this on the board in week one? The games most prolific current wide receiver in a high powered offense is matching up against arguably the leagues worst pass defenses. The Browns allowed 29 passing touchdowns in ‘07, and Owens should have no problem finding holes in the secondary all afternoon, making him our top wide receiver to kick off the 2008 season. Point Projection: 19 points

I know we might be a little late to this party but it is worth mentioning that Cincinatti Bengals wideout Chad Johnson has legally changed his name to Chad Ocho Cinco. For those who missed Spanish numbers day in grammar school it stands for 85, his jersey number. It has been a tumultous off-season for Chad before this as he was having conflicts with team brass over his contract and also postponed a much needed ankle surgery. Personally I don’t understand the name change. Unless you were given an awful name as a child, why not just keep it as it is. Two men who are of course absolved in my eyes are Terry Bollea aka Hulk Hogan who eventually went to Terry Hogan, and the Ultimate Warrior aka Jim Hellwig who went to Jim Warrior. For reasons God only knows - his amazing clip from youtube where Jim Warrior addresses a crowd on c-span is no longer available. In honor of bringing up these two legends can we get a little flash back to 1990, Toronto Skydome. You know where this is going… Wrestlemania Six. Enjoy. My final thoughts on this is it would be so interesting to see Chad Johnson traded to a place where the number 85 is retired, such as the Detroit Lions - props to Chuck Hughes, or the St. Louis Rams - hello Jack Youngblood.

Todd Bouman, one of three veteran quarterbacks to work out for the Ravens yesterday, accepted a one-year offer to sign with the team, a source told ESPN.com. But, perhaps we should still wait as it was reported last night by several news outlets that the Ravens had signed Joey Harrington. Apparently that is not the case. Bouman, Chris Simms and Joey Harrington worked out for for the Ravens yesterday in Owings Mills. This morning, Bouman was offered a one-year deal worth $830,000, according to ESPN.com. The 36-year-old Bouman has played for the Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, Green Bay Packers, Jacksonville Jaguars and St. Louis Rams. Bouman was an undrafted quarterback when he signed with Vikings in 1997. He was released by the Jaguars on Saturday. The Ravens yesterday named rookie Joe Flacco the starting quarterback for the regular-season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sept. 7. and with Troy Smith still recovering and Kyle Boller likely out for the season the team needs a backup for Week One.

The Rams reduced the number of team captains from nine to five yesterday and then voted for five players to serve in that role. On offense, Marc Bulger and receiver Torry Holt are captains while Will Witherspoon and Corey Chavous will lead the defense. Safety Todd Johnson has been elected the captain of the special teams. Off the field, the Rams signed cornerback Ricky Manning and came to terms with linebacker Gary Stills. Manning arrived in St. Louis from Chicago after being cut by the Bears. Stills was released by Baltimore where he excelled on special teams. To make room on the roster for Manning, the Rams released defensive back Eric Bassey. An additional player will be released in order to make room for Stills.

The Ravens may get some help on the offensive line, as Bengals.com is reporting that the team will be talking to former Bengals long-time OL Willie Anderson tomorrow. Anderson got calls from Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome and owner Steve Bisciotti, showing just how interested they are in his services. There are other teams in the mix, such as the Bears, Giants Bucs and Rams that also need line help. The Ravens may have the edge since they play the Bengals this weekend and willl twice a season.

Here’s what others are saying about the Arizona Cardinals: Seattle Post-Intelligencer: Yes, dear readers, the Arizona Cardinals again are the Team of Destiny. Let’s be honest — of late, the Team of Destiny program has been the butt of jokes, a cocktail-party punch line. But I believe in the Cardinals.
